PREPARATION BEFORE AN INTERVIEW

The degree of preparedness before an interview helps reduce the
uncertainty and anxiety prior to the interview.
Learn about the Organisation: It is important to have some
information on the background of the company you apply to, as the
interviewers can judge your keenness and initiative. What you must know is
:
· A brief history of the organization
· Its main divisions/ sub-businesses
· Location of its various units/ divisions
· Nature of its products and services
· Any important issue of the organization that has been newsworthy
· The nature of the job applied for

· Company balance sheets available at a price from the H.O. of the
company
· Speech of the chairman of the company at the last General Body Meeting
printed in the newspaper
· Brochures and pamphlets of the company available at any sales office of
the company
· Talking to employees of the company introduced by common friends to
ascertain what kind of person the organization needs
To prepare a good bio-data, here are a few tips to keep in mind:
1. The bio-data must be typed on a quarto-sized bond paper which is
white, clean and uncreased. It is preferable to type the bio-data on an
electric or electronic typewriter.
2. Name: While writing your name, it must be in the following
order: first name, middle name, surname.
3. Date of birth: The date of birth must be as follows: date,
month in words and the year in full, eg. 24 July, 1970.
4. Addresses: The addresses, both temporary and permanent, must be
reliable because the interview call letter will be sent there.
5. Academic Qualifications: The academic career must be listed
with the most recent qualifications first.
6. Work Experience: The work experience must commence with the
present assignment.
7. Extra-curricular Activities: You must have adequate knowledge
of the activities you list, as the interviewer could quiz you on this.
Always list achievements rather than activities.
8. References: Your bio-data should have at least three referees
who are acquaintances and not relatives.
9. Photograph: Affix a passport sized photograph.
10.Signature: Always sign your bio-data. This is an
acknowledgement that all information given in the bio-data is authentic.
11. Application Letter: Your bio-data should be sent along with a
formal application letter, which should be signed. All supporting
documents, as requested, must be stapled with the application form.
